Where It All Started
Shannon Casey and Cortney Casey, both wine enthusiasts from suburban Detroit, founded Michiganbythebottle.com in June 2009 to spotlight the underappreciated wines and wineries of Michigan. Initially a blog, it rapidly attracted a dedicated local wine community and unveiled untapped potential among prospective Michigan wine enthusiasts. As their passion grew, they partnered with boutique, family-run Michigan wineries with limited distribution, and occasionally collaborated with larger wineries to feature their exclusive, hard-to-find wines in Metro Detroit.
“Fresh Start, Same Heart”
In the heart of Michigan’s wine country, within the Great Lakes Region, fifteen small, family-owned wineries have united not to compete, but to collaborate. Spread across Michigan’s AVA regions, these growers and winemakers believe great wine is rooted in local soil, climate, and community.
Together, they’ve formed a cooperative to showcase their finest wines under one roof, offering visitors a true taste of Michigan. Each bottle reflects their shared commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and family tradition.
This alliance isn’t just about wine, it’s about connection. It celebrates the land, the hands behind each bottle, and the rich character of Michigan’s vineyards. One pour at a time, they’re sharing the story of Michigan wine with the world.
