Sandhill Crane Vineyards

Origin Story

It all started when Norm Moffatt began growing grapes and making wine as a hobby after retiring in as an officer in Detroit, MI. He used to get grapes from the Eastern Market and other fruit from folks that he knew. Norman was a man of many hobbies with growing grapes and winemaking topping them all.

How They Started

After retiring as a Detroit, MI officer, Alice, his wife, and Annie, his sister, found land near Jackson, Michigan to move to, what planned for the land to be a nice place to retire, soon turned into opening the winery to the public in 2003. His two daughters were in on the business including current owner, Holly, who learned the winemaking.
